Online store coming to the UK soon! We'll be open in January 2025. Join our mailing list below for updates!

Well, hello there.

Laurel Tree Books began as Green House Books in Aotearoa New Zealand. We opened online in 2021 and closed GHB in 2024 when we made the big move back to Scotland. We had an extremely successful few years operating in NZ, providing over 3500 unique and wonderful secondhand books a new home. We are very excited to now be up and running in the UK!

Secondhand books are so much more than just an old story written by an author. The jacket, cover and pages contain their own histories from their previous owners. And who can deny the smell of old books is nothing but comforting. Whether it’s vintage, antique, rare, or a recent printing, secondhand books give people the chance to fill their homes with stories that are imaginary, informative or personal.

And secondhand bookstores provide an opportunity to browse and stumble across something you would never be able to find elsewhere. Our ultimate goal is to absolutely delight someone with a book.

At Laurel Tree Books, we aim to heavily curate a selection of books to appeal to the curious, the weirdos, the intrigued and the obsessed. We try to stock a wide variety of genres, but we do have a focus on science fiction and non-fiction (at the moment).

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions about our stock or if you would like to request a book. Additionally, if you have books that you would like to offload, we are happy to take them off your hands if you live in the Fife or Edinburgh area! Email us at enquiries@laureltreebooks.co.uk.

Lastly, a wee note about our name (and the name change). Green House Books served us so well for many years, but moving to a new country also presented a need to start the business anew. I was driving along a back road in Tauranga, New Zealand before we moved, thinking about my mother Laura, who passed away years back. And the name Laurel popped into my head, quickly preceeded by Tree and Books, and there it was, our new name. While it is mostly a tribute to her, I also thoroughly enjoy the mythology and symbolism surrounding the laurel tree. So here's to remembering and to our hopeful success!

Well done, you've made it this far, the self-promoting drivel is done. Go treat yo'self to a good book!
